e.thirteen Staccato 8 is coming
by acadian
Posted: May 22, 2008
e.thirteen is up to something. I was just on their site and saw this thing about "Staccato 8". I have no idea what it's all about, but if you're lucky enough to attend the US open this weekend, go check it out!
http://www.e13components.com/announcements.html.
The US Open of Mountain Biking is upon us and the crew at e.thirteen could not be more excited. The racing action is sure to be fierce, one of the largest single event purses in mountain biking is going to be awarded, and a lot of great times are in store. Those aren't the only reasons we're excited though. You see, we've been working in secret on something really special, and we're going to show it to the world for the first time ever at the US Open. It's called Staccato 8, and you can come on out and see it in person on 5-23-08 at the US Open of Mountain Biking at Diablo. See you there!

gear box?...
actually, its a pedal, all it takes is typing a few words into google and looking for something on the first page
and in the picture, its the layers of the pedal, the green on top and bottom are the plastic removable pieces and the grey is the structure of the pedal idk bout the black tho and the red is the screw to like hold the bearings or something

Is that one of the ink block things, cos if so... im seeing a duck. -Love scrubs. Looks like a clipless to me too.
staccato means that the notes are played separate - wiki answers
could be sumit to do with a gear box
could be sumit to do with a gear box
emmmmmmmmm 5050 are actual pretty class if you think about it i mean whose not running them in downhill these days
505's are really really nice with the right shoes. IF you wear running shoes or something your gunna have problems. There are better pedals out there but 5050's are overall good pedals.
OMG WOW!....another pedal!....I wonder if it also makes your bike move forward when you push down on it?
Pretty funny. But, the 8 suggests 8 gears... Truvativ Hammerschmidt is a 2 gear internal replacement for the front derailleur. The combo of these could be sick.
I'm going with gearbox, the 8 hints at possibly 8 gears, and I could see why their keeping it so secretive, if it was a pedal, they would have already shown us a picture, its not like a new pedal is any innovation. So I say its an 8spd gearbox.
ill be there this weekend, im going to have to check this out, ill takes some pics and post it up if its worth it.
i think it is clip less peddles
because the word means Characterized by short, clipped, rapid articulation
because the word means Characterized by short, clipped, rapid articulation
that all makes sence actually... could mabey be a gear box.... but im really not sure, im gona say 70-30 its a pedal
take a look of the thumbnail/ scaled down press release pic of the staccato 8 on the home page of pb. it looks pretty much like a clipless pedal
maybe a bike lol, and ther only making 8 staccatos lol, its bound to be gears. 8 sharp notes, suggests gears.
It looks like there is a continuing line from top right to bottom left, like a chain. My guess is it is a new chain device. One that gives you x-ray vision and hyper speed! Yeah, that's it.
definately. They're probably all dumb ozzy kids who make fake accounts with fake avatars pretending they're 18 year old girls. Losers.

I would go for a flat pedal as well... A super light one with only 8 pins ?
I doubt e13 would have developed something as great as a gearbox without anyone knowing it nor any rider having tested it in race conditions (world cup or whatever).
Or the announcement will be made this week-end and racers will start to use it, so that it can be sold in shops in 2009 or 2010.
Except it IS a flat pedal

But, Dave Weagle is in cahoots with Karl Nicolai who uses the g-boxx standard on his Nicolai bikes that Karl developed with Rolhoff...
maybe im missing out with my colour blindness, i dont see how people are saying it looks like a pedal. its just a load of dots and blobs to me lol. should be interesting to find out what it actuly is when at the US Open.

I don't know what it is but i hope it means they are gonna start delivering some freekin LG1's......to places
thats a pedal, that greens parts are the body of it, but its a cut through. the long bit out the back is the axle, the lighter lines of dots are the pins. the gold bit it the end nut. and the bit at the bottom is the shadow.
It does look like a pedal, but the shadow for the spindle is on the wrong side! But, if they use SolidWorks for their CAD design, it does all kinds of realistic things like reflections, textures, and shadows... I'm sure ProE and others do it too.
I agree on the exploded view of a pedal. With an exploded view like that the pedal looks like it will be pretty intense. Or they have the basic pedal and you can change the outside shell for different colors/styles.

im sorry but how can you tell from that pic what its guna be? i recon it looks like a iq/coulorblind test if you ask me... still looking forward to what it ACCTUALY is though.
Im crap with names but im sure there was a new guy that moved to E13 to help develop new parts for them. The 8 could stand for 8 gears? or 8 pins (on a pedal) or even 8" of travel which could mean a new shock? Someone further up said Staccato ment sharp and crisp, well that could mean a shock couldnt it.
This is where i heard about the new guy http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/News.aspx?NewsID=251

8" couldn't be it, because the shock wouldn't decide how much travel the bike has... that's down to leverage ratios etc.

thats it, im doin a blog on this. im gonna try to speak with the e-13 guys at the open and get the scoop on this.

First of all it looked like a country! Haha
Its definitely a pedal, but who ever said the picture had anything to do with what the product is? HAHAHHAAHHA
E-thirteen just made a weird photo to confuse everyone, lol
The staccato makes sense if it is a pedal, as it means sharp short sounds, referring to the sharp defined feel of the pedal!
But they say they have spent ages working on it, so it must be one hell of a special pedal, prob extremely light, where the 8 probably comes in!
Cant wait to see it!

If it really i a pedal . . . . . I'll stick with my 5050's
I think my foot would just slip off a bunch of random colours

I think it's definately a pedal shown in it's different layers
The grey layer in the middle is the core, the two green layers are the platforms where you put your feet on the grey, green stick on the right is the axle and the black, grey thing on the bottom left is just a shadow.
But in the end we'll all see it tomorrow:-)

If it was a pedal, that would be lame. However the image does look like the exploded view of a three piece pedal with a shadow beneath.
I'm pretty sure it's the gear box that I heard about people trying out, but you couldn't see it.. it was hidden and you only got to jump on the bike and pedal. I believe it was at sea otter or some other race that they were letting a few racers try it out. Someone was telling me about it the other day... guess we'll find out soon!

basically no one has said it'd be an 8" travel DH frame, so i am going to.
the picture makes me think of the axle path map of the cannondale gemini twin-shocker. so i am saying frame.

if you haven't noticed the picture is a rough outline of the united states sideways, were its being premiered. its probably going to be a chainguide that can handle a three ringed deraileur.
After they launched the evil HT with the g-box proto., and they were a step ahead of the rest at that point. I'm betting since they been pretty much laying on the low since then, I bet they're probly coming out with the next step ahead of all others in the g-box race!
Actually I withdraw my last preminition, as I just looked at the pic. as a thumbnail pic, and it looks like the "Exploded" view of a pedal.
If Staccato is to do with music then I'm saying this is a bike mounted mp3 player with an 8Gb capacity and is powered by your wheels rolling!
Ok maybe not...I'm going with a pedal

well I was right ;-)
but these pedals are a waist of time to look at
they look really shitty!!! the open spindle, the design, how thin they are and then that ugly red screw thing on the end.
I like the exploding picture better.
I really love e.thirteen but these pedals are optically (I don't know how good the bearings and that stuff are) but just how they look, made for the garbage can!!! SORRY maby next time

I was hoping for "E13: The Opera"... Have to agree with you, they seem to have missed something with the aesthetics. The pins look a bit big, like you're gonna feel every one through your shoes. But as you say, there's only so much you can gauge from a photo. Be interesting to see how they perform
If a pair of those magicly apear in my home i'll sell them (i won't even give them to a friend). I can't imagine replacing my Fly Rubens for those... pedals.
im gonna be flamed, but ide buy em,(depending on the price)
they are really sleek, some other colours would be nice though. however if i had 150 to spend on pedals ide buy straitlines, i wouldnt pay more than 70 for those
