The Mayhem Festival 2008 is another action-packed 7 Day Freeride Festival at Åre Bike Park, Sweden. After 6 years of festivals, this is the final Mayhem event, so don’t miss it.
Mayhem is an open, free mountain bike event. This is the last chance to join the party, everybody’s welcome. Åre Bike Park has 4 chairlift stations, 900M vertical drop, and over 40km of trail networks.
Åre’s much anticipated new freeride trail will have a premier opening on wed 6th at 12:00. Plus Åre’s slopestyle arena has been redesigned by Mr Feffe Forsell to include a few new features for 2008 with a focus on different line options.
On the competitions side of things, unfortunately there will be no SM in downhill due to problems in the local bike club that could not have be rectified on time. However, during the week, there are a number of other competitions to get the adrenaline flowing. A dual elimination race on Wednesday 6th, the Quarter Pipe challenge on the Thursday and the Mayhem Slopestyle on Saturday 9th. All above competitions are free to enter.
Registrations are made the day previous at the mayhem stand in the exhibition area.
On Friday 9th we have a special invitational only slopestyle competition called Mayhem All Stars. It is a battle between three of Sweden’s best against three of our guest pro riders. The competition is a collective team effort, one team battling the other. The Swedish team consists of Micke Bolmstam, Martin Söderstrom, and Linus Sjöholm. Guest pro team is Cam Zink, Kyle Strait and Steve Romaniuk.
If you are looking to sharpen your riding skills or learn how to nail perfect that trick, Cam, Kyle and Steve will also be running their own pro bike clinics. Sign up online!
Two nights during the week we will have open beach volleyball down on Åre beach. The Red Bull sound unit will be down with DJ Zaki, and there is an open bbq which is free to use, so don’t forget to bring your meat. On Tuesday there will be a special acrobatic paragliding show taking place over the lake in front of the beach which is guaranteed to be nothing short of spectacular.
The latest freeride movies will be shown on a full cinema size screen at Holiday Club 3 nights during the week, from 20:00 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Free Entry to all.
Extended Play until 6pm: An extra 2 hours of chair lift access can be enjoyed on both Tuesday and Friday.
The ‘Mayhem Pass’ festival band is the key to saving money and getting super discounts all week on bike shops, local restaurants and shops in Åre. For a list of all the savings, check out the mayhem pass section on the web site.
A major part of the festival are the mayhem parties. There will be no less than 4 major party nights during the week. We kick the week off Sunday evening at Timmerstugan. Wednesday night Sram party at Wersens, Friday at Timmerstugan with Dj Uncle-R and Supersci feat Remedaah, and the final Red Bull party with DJ Zaki at Wersens to finish off the week.
