SF Urban Riders – Bringing a Bike Park to San Francisco

Do you ever dream you could head out to the local park to play on a pump track, practice riding some skinnys, or take turns hitting some wall rides & jumps with your friends? Maybe you just wish there was well-made, legal singletrack within your city parks. SF Urban Riders has been hard at work, pushing those dreams that much closer to reality.
SF Urban Riders has released the first conceptual draft of a draft of a potential Bicycle Skills Park in San Francisco's McLaren Park. This exciting step is the first of many towards developing an improved trail network and a world class bicycle park within San Francisco city limits.
The group has undergone a fair amount of growth and development over the last year, and along with officially becoming a non profit chapter of the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA), has selected an interim board of directors and launched a completely revamped website:

SF Urban Riders is hosting a public meeting and social this coming Wednesday, 5/27/09 from 6-8pm at Sports Basement Potrero Hill. Come out to meet your fellow mountain bike advocates and get involved with the development of trails and bicycle skills parks in San Francisco. SF Urban Riders will be showing off their newest conceptual maps for McLaren Park trail and bike park improvements, giving a tour of the website and seeking public feedback and suggestions. This will be a BYOB event.

Makes me want to move to San Francisco even more now.
Can't wait to transfer to SF State even more. Especially since if this plane goes through it's only like 3 miles from the SF State campus
hey pacifica is good too but this looks like a really good idea! and bigcityrollin why dont you go fall in a hole and die because San Francisco isnt all homos and in fact the bay area is the place where mountain biking all started so f*ck you
Finally, the home of mountain biking actually being nice to us. It will be good having something closer than sandhill thats legal. Hope it works out.
Find the land and get local riders involved. I've been trying to find a spot to do a similar thing in my hometown. The only way it ever gets done 99% of the time is if the riders push hard for it.

thats funny. I was thinking about the same thing.
UCSC has a pretty vast trail network tho...
kinda hard to compete

Dude this is nothing compared to SC trails. But don't go to a college just because of the biking (unless it's a scholarship)
Hate to tell you but UCSC trails are illegal now. Not to say you can't ride the stuff that wasn't dozed, you just run the risk of getting a fat fine.

Hey guys, do everything you can to spread support for this through SF Urban Riders and SF Dirtlab. This has been a long time in the making and there is a lot of red tape left to cut through. It's gonna be an uphill battle to get downhill goodies in SF. Spread the stoke!!!
anyone know if it will be an open park for everyone to shuttle themselves? or will it be lift ticketed?
