Jordie Lunn’s Jump Jam Under Wraps

April 28, 2008

The event was held on a perfect sunny day on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Thirty riders were on hand to compete in Jordie Lunn's backyard ‘jam', dubbed ‘Peanut Butter Knife Fight'.

With nearly three-hundred spectators, it was a fun and casual scene. Jordie Lunn changed ‘The Yard' completely this year, and riders had a little surprise in store for them. The yard was built with a new, tricky pumptrack to start. The first day of practice really took its toll on the athletes. Riders needed all the key mountain bike skills for this competition...cornering, pumping and jumping.

Jordie, Ryder Kasprick and Brandon Semenuk made it look easy, as they pulled from their deep bag of talent. The rest of the dirt jumpers that ride foam pits and straight jumps got schooled on the ‘squirrel catcher'.

The new DJ kids need to learn how to mountain bike! A couple picked it up by the end of the day but never had consistent runs. Ryder put together two good runs with a couple of highlights (tuck no-hander, handplant, 270 spin out of the tree-ride). Jordie rode exceptionally well despite have a couple of beers during the day. He says it keeps him loose and ready.

The final was whittled down to a 10 man ‘Super Final' and the pressure was on. Semenuk put together a winning combo but couldn't quite pull it off. He tricked every jump, but on the last one, he over-rotated on a 360 X up and went down hard. It was nice to see Ryder get a solid result after the crazy times he's been through this year. Congratulations Ryder! Graham Agassiz received the Most Improved Rider award, and took home a fresh new RockShox Argyle fork. He rode super smooth and really brought some creative style this year.

even the dialled flowy riders had trouble getting the lines consistent, the top section involves getting the perfect line! ryder and jordie have that place dialled and it showed in the comp! semenuck's tricks are so dailled too he can throw them perfect over anything. congrats to the top 3 it was a super fun weekend

"Riders needed all the key mountain bike skills for this competition...cornering, pumping and jumping." ... is that all there is to mountain biking these days? I guess actually pedalling your bike places is kind of old-school.

LOL! Details, details, who needs pedals, those are just for holding you up right.
Yeah, I love the pics, and love all kinds of biking, but I'm definitely more of an XC, skinnies, and bike-park visitor than a dirt jumper/trick puller. Certainly amazed at the stuff these guys pull off!

It says Agassiz is sponsered by kona, does that mean he is going to be on clump this year?

just cause you're sponsored by Kona doesn't make you a Clump rider, for a while, Chopper wasn't on the Clump, but still sponsored by Kona. But Aggy is an awesome rider, he brings the all-around style to the game, keep it up!
